World Refugee Day, designated by the United Nations, honors refugees globally on June 20 each year. Established in 2001 to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention on the Status of Refugees, this day celebrates the strength and courage of those forced to flee their home countries to escape conflict or persecution.
Our celebration highlights refugees' rights, needs, and dreams, mobilizing political will and resources to help them thrive. Activities worldwide, often involving refugees, governments, host communities, and the public, focus attention on their plight and provide support.
Thank you to all of our sponsors, funders and volunteers for coming together to celebrate refugees everywhere!
The event hosted a local resource fair with 13 participating organizations, yoga, Zumba, kids activities, community quilt making, music by the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, a shared lunch prepared by local immigrant chefs, ice cream, and more! And every participating family received a free family portrait.
